TOP 7 PLACES TO GO IN WICHITA

The Keeper of the Plains is a massive weathered steel monument that stands guard above Wichita. Blackbear Bosin, a native Wichitan and globally renowned artist, created the five-ton statue. Fire pits around the statue are briefly lit each night when weather permits.

It is located at the junction of the Arkansas River and Little Arkansas River. The statue is within walking distance of the Mid-America All-Indian Center. The Keeper of the Plains is a must-see landmark in Wichita!

Wichita is home to the original Pizza Hut. The franchise was started in 1958. The building was actually moved from its original location and now sits on the Wichita State University campus. The first Pizza Hut doesn’t have the iconic trapezoidal windows and tiered roof because this was before they implemented the brand design.

This is fast food history. Unfortunately, it does not serve pizza. The nearest active Pizza Hut is about 4 miles away on E 37th St N. The Original Pizza Hut is an important part of Wichita history.

Local sculptor Constance Ernatt wanted to add to the art scene at the Riverfront. So, she designed and built a 5-foot-tall sculpture of a troll. The Wichita Troll is tucked away under the grate of an overflow junction.

The Creeper of the Drains weighs 210 pounds and is hollow so stormwater can drain out of it. It is easy to miss because it is under an ordinary grate. Searching for the Wichita Troll is half the fun!
